How much transmission fluid is needed to change it. 2018 Buick Grand Sport V6 3100 cu in.
A 2018 regal gs has a 310hp 3.6 liter v6. Which is 219 ci.
Trans is M3T code or 9T60 if I recall
Fluid drain/fill? 5qts I think. Drain it and see.
Yep, measure what comes out.
I’ll add one thing . . . follow the correct procedure to check the fluid level afterwards, and at the proper operating temperature
According to Wikipedia, your car uses the 9T65 transmission. The link below says in figure 2b that it uses 9 quarts of Dextron 6 ATF.
What if it was low before you drained it??
ALWAYS properly check and make sure the fluid is truly full after servicing, measuring what comes out is ONLY a reference point, if it has a check level plug (not looking it up) then add about a 1/2 quart more than came out and let it drain back out the overflow, if noting came out then add another 1/2 quart, keeping an eye on the temp, might have to turn off and cool down and start all over and keep doing this until full, (fluid flows out the check level plug thingy), when checking at the proper way and temp…
VERY critical to do this…
I don’t do this myself anymore. A lot of cars have no dipstick and are filled from an access port on the side of the trans while level. Some even require the fluid temp to be measured. I think my last change was around $200. And the coffee was ok.
My 1973 Ford was filled that way, I didn’t let it discourage me.
OP should remember that the amount required for a fluid change is probably considerably less than the transmission’s total fluid holding capacity. Avoid over-filling.
A lot of transmissions for years now without dipsticks have to be overfilled in order to properly fill the fluid to the proper fill level… When you have a fill level hole you have to over fill it for the excess to drain out the fill level hole, or how else are you going to know if it is full or not??.. Again following the correct process…
Most (if not all) geared automatic transmissions will spit out what it doesn’t want using the vent hole that all hydraulic systems have, it just tends to make a mess… Just like brakes, if the reservoir has to much fluid in it when you compress the caliper piston it will just push the excess fluid out…
I always overfill my fun car transmission and it will push out the fluid not needed…
That was the norm to add about a quart to much to the old TH350/TH400 and let then vent… lol
Now don’t throw 5 quarts to much in it, but a 1/2 a quart won’t hurt most geared automatic transmissions (CVT not sure of)…
