Car periodically will not move into reverse or drive then after a while it’s ok.

Have you been changing your transmission with Volvo spec fluid every 30,000 miles?

There could be a problem between the selector and transmission. I’d guess there’s an electronic relay and if the signal isn’t getting through, such as due to an intermittent connection problem, that could cause what you’re experiencing. A qualified transmission shop or Volvo dealer can tell you for sure.
Did you check the transmission fluid level?
I would be surprised if this is possible. Modern transmissions should not leak, the fluid level should not drop.
Lifetime gaskets and seals? Did they start getting used with the lifetime trans fluid?
