We have a F-Sport AWD - 6500 miles - we brought new. There is a problem with loud thud when backing out of parking space. We have had the car into the Dealer and they put new brakes on rear. This has not help the issue. We notice the problem more after driving a few miles. It does not always happen when we first start the car. Please advise.
I might be wrong but it could be the rear stabilizer links going bad. Do you drive on rough roads? My Corolla goes through a set of links every 3-4 years.
Are you able to get a sense on where the noise is coming from?

Hard to say over the internet, this sort of diagnosis pretty much has to be done by somebody who has the car in front of them. I’ve had rear driveline problems cause a similar clunk on my 4wd truck, caused by too much u-joint play or the splines binding up due to lack of grease on the two-part driveshaft. Does it make that noise when first switching to R? Or does it happen after you’ve switched to R and have already started backing out?
