A mechanic told my husband we should be driving our Prius 12,000 miles a year to maintain the battery properly. Is this true, and if so, why?
We don’t drive that much.
The mechanic is wrong. The batteries in your hybrid are not like the conventional lead-acid battery that starts your car.
Ask this uninformed mechanic what will happen if you only drive 11999 miles.
Just do what you need to do with your vehicle and if you have questions the dealer is the best place to start.
I recommend the Prius owner’s club on Facebook. Lots of help there.
Or Priuschat.org.
Mechanic is nuts.
