To be fair to auto manufacturers, some things were made easier to service. For instance, in 1952, Ford moved the master brake cylinder from under the floor to under the hood. The other manufacturers finally adopted this. Having the pedals for the brake and clutch suspended made it easier to clean out the car. Going to airplane type shock absorbers from lever action made replacement easier. It’s easier to replace disk brake pads than drum brake shoes.
