2012 Kia Soul seems to have an electrical problem causing power steering to go out as well as the alternator/distributor,
Likely bad battery or bad alternator or both.
I presume that what is actually happening, is that your engine stalls from low battery voltage and because the engine is no longer turning the Power steering pump…you lose power steering.
As @Mustangman pointed to… bad battery or bad alternator or both…
