2009 Honda CR-V - Debating two older versions

Is the 2009 honda crv a better suv than the 2013? Really thinking about buying one. Just these two paticular years stood out for me.

Check out CarComplaints.com; see what others have reported.

Generally speaking… maintenance on a used car is FAR more important than year, model, mileage, or pretty much anything else. Others may disagree…but I’d buy an “older” model vehicle over a “newer” one, if the older one had been better maintained, with documentation.

Horsepower is up about 11.4% for the 4th generation vs. the 3rd generation CRV. In general you’d be happier with a newer generation CRV assuming you can find one in good condition.

One could be better that the other but having a shop do an inspection is the only way to find out. Expect to pay for that .

The 2013` would have a more useful AWD system but otherwise they’re the same drivetrain as far as I’m aware. We had a 2007 for 12.5yrs before getting a new 2019 and it was rock solid reliable but the real time 4wd only sends power to the rear after the front starts to slip. How each was maintained will matter.

Should have had a service at least once a year and rear diff services every 30K even if the computer hasn’t said so.

One other thing - a test drive. Look for anything odd. At 11-15 years old, they can pick up some quirks, like smells that just won’t go away.

Any older Honda I’d like to know the transmission fluid change history, but that could be hard to find.
