There is a whining sound when idling. Is it the transmission?
If only when idling you could be correct. Has it always done it or is this a recent development? Have you checked the transmission fluid? When was the last time it was changed? How many miles on the car? Another possibility is the alternator. My Corolla’s alternator started whining both times before it went out but you could hear it at other times besides idling.
