Engine stalled (just stopped running) while on highway
coasted to breakdown lane …able restart a few minutes later
1st time happened
No Hyundai experience, but fyi I’ve had that problem occur on my cars three times over the years.
- (1) High voltage part of ignition system had cracked insulation, road water splashed on it, no spark. Started ok after water dried out.
- (2) Faulty ignition points, no spark. Required replacing points. That part isn’t used on your Hyundai, but the similar-function part for your car would be the crank sensor. .
- (3) Fuel pump high-current wiring path failed inside fuse box. Required replacing fuse box.
Was there a lot of rain on the road when this happened? If so, I’m guessing road-water splashed onto some sensitive part of your car’s ignition system, no spark, engine stalled. After a few minutes latent engine-compartment heat evaporated the water. The key to this diagnosis is your shop determining whether the stall is b/c of no-spark, or no-fuel. Or something else.
