at 47K miles my 2008 Hyundai Azera is stuck in 3rd gear.

Your transmission needs service. Have it towed to an independent shop that diagnose the problem. Bring money, you are gonna need quite a bit.
This is a very general stuff you wrote there.
This transmission was serviced 10K miles ago and has the correct fluid in it.
It is most probably a communication or an ECM/PCM problem
