I have a 2008 Chevy HHR LT with a 2.4 engine and is has 188,000 miles and just started to lose power and have one cylinder out not firing. Any ideas what it can be?

Several possible problems. What are the code numbers you are getting? Do a compression check and engine vacuum check.
Report back with those findings, then someone on the site may point you in the right direction.
Worn out rings or valves in that one cylinder. A compression test will tell you how bad it is and whether it is rings or valves.
Engine rebuild time!

the coil for that cylinder could be bad.
Yeah a little testing but I suspect with that many miles on a four cyl working it’s tail off is finally saying uncle.

First step: Have your shop read out the computer’s diagnostic codes and do a compression test. If you post the results here, you’ll get some further ideas.
