2007 Subaru Tribeca - Overheats

And if the shop can locate a good used engine at a reasonable cost if yours requires a complete rebuilding.

I would say that it makes better economic sense to repair the engine which you already have, unless it makes knocking noises, or there is coolant in the oil. And of course, when you have the head gasket repair done, make sure the heads are reconditioned by a professional machine shop–NOT just resurfaced and given a cursory cleaning–and make sure that the timing chain kit, water pump, thermostat, and radiator are replaced–even if they appear to be good.

thanks for the help m b

At least 20 hours of labor, replacing the cylinder heads will cost $5,000.

Tanks for the info M.B.

Ensure that you take it to a shop that is aware of Subaru engine repair particulars. I am unaware of the 3.0L but I know that the 2.5L requires a special RA (roughness average) finish on the cylinder head when machining. Some machine shops are unaware of this or simply do not take care of this.

Thank you for the advice M.B.
