2007 Mazda Miata MX-5 - Should I buy a Miata?

Considering purchasing 2007 Miata MX-5 Grand Touring convertible

I know one for sale. Where are you?

Have an independent shop of your choice put it on a rack for a wheels off complete inspection, have the alignment checked also (can show unseen damage)…
Check for rust also…

Hi FOS, and thanks for joining the Community. Assuming the price is fair, and you have the car checked by a mechanic, I say, go for it! I owned a 2007 Miata, which we call the “NC” Miata because it was the third generation. Fantastic vehicle. I’m one of the car testing team here at Car Talk and I consider the Miata the very best vehicle for fun. The NC is a fantastic vintage. Best of luck!

Make sure you can get in and out of the car first, and are comfortable in it before buying.

Miatas are fun cars. But the few that I’ve ridden in are a little cramped for my tastes.

If you take the good advice above to get a pre-purchase inspection, ask them to also make sure all the emission system’s readiness monitors are in the complete state. And that there are no stored diagnostic codes, esp p0455.

It seems like checking the OBD-II would be a part of a standard pre-purchase inspection.

Mazda makes good reliable vehicles (better than most). But the key to keeping a vehicle reliable is MAINTENANCE. Maintenance records are key. Have it thoroughly inspected by a trusted mechanic.
