I own a 2007 Hyundai Accent SE. I need new tires. The measurements are 205/45/16 for the stock tires. I was wondering if I am able to go to a 205/50/16 on this car to allow for more options of tires. What are the positives and what are the negatives if i am able to do this?
Just going to 50 series will throw off your speedometer, and (possibly) rub. The same diameter tire would be a 185/50/16.
So instead of the 185/50/16 would be basically the same as the 205/45/16 then?
Just about identical diameter, but narrower. The handling won’t be quite as ‘sharp’. You’ll want to check that it’ll work on the relatively wide rims on the Accent. Tirerack.com has lots of information, and also decent prices - you might find some good buys in your original size.
