2007 Honda Civic Cpe - Parasitic draw on battery

Battery drains overnight. When car, lights, radio, and ac are turned off, the right rear taillight seems to be dimly lit. Any ideas for the cause and a fix?

Have any of the tail lights been replaced right before this started happening??

Do the running and brake light work normal??

Take a look at the car 3 hours after you’ve parked it up for the evening. Look for an lights remaining on: dashboard, headlights, tail-lights, brake light, interior lights including hidden lights like the glove compartment, engine compartment, and trunk. If you have anything plugged into any ports like usb or obd ii, remove all that to see if it helps.

Note this could be a battery or charging system problem as well. Could also happen if you seldom drive the vehicle, or only drive it short distances.

I’m just a pin-head diyer, so be sure to take that into account.

No taillights have been replaced. All are original equipment. The last time I checked, running and brake lights were working normally.

I am going to take a guess and say your brake light switch is defective and stuck on. and your left side brake light bulb is burnt out.

I was thinking that also, but the left side and 3rd brake lights would both have to be out, plus the right brake light should be bright, not dime, unless the OP is only looking at them after the battery has drained overnight…

To that point, OP needs to check to see if any/all of the brake lights are on after getting out of the car, and maybe even check after an hour or so if not on when parking the car…

George makes some valid points also, look for anything left/stuck on, or maybe comes on hours later…

A neighbor came up to me just before dinner and told me that he noticed that all of the brake lights were on and they were the only lights on when the car was parked. I charged the battery today and when I hooked it back up, the horn started beeping the same way as if the car alarm had been triggered. It would not stop beeping when I pressed the “off” on the remote, so I ended up pulling the fuse. I didn’t get a chance to see if the brake lights were on before I disconnected the battery.

Everything else in the car is turned off – lights, radio, wipers, interior door light, turn signals, a/c and the fan. What could be causing the car alarm to go off when it has not been set?

Now you need to check and make sure that the part of the brake pedal arm still has the little rubber stopper thingy in it that contacts the brake light switch, if not replace it, if so then replace your brake light switch…

Nice, it sounds good.
