On deceleration, the engine rpm goes up and down causing the headlights to dim accordingly. This happens at lower than 35 mph speeds. Once it down shifts, the lights and engine operate normally. The car has 267,000 miles on it Most of them highway and still getting about 30 mpg.

Have your alternator checked. What you describe shouldn’t happen.
