When an engine draws in air with water mist it has a cooling effect, which reduces spark knock tendency.
In your case it might be allowing more ignition advance without triggering the knock sensor.
Water injection has been used on high performance piston engines used in ground vehicles and aircraft.
It can be quite effective when done right.
Sounds like you might be a good candidate for a fuel system cleaning.
Are you up-to-date on all of your maintenance, especially your spark plugs?
Old timer here, cars used to run better in the rain, 60’s and 70’s, better compression from wet air was the rumor back then, might could be a compression check in order.
