2006 Chevrolet Express Passenger - Excess wheel play

Excessive steering wheel play after rebuilt steering box and pitman arm replaced.

Why were they replaced ? They may not have been the problem.

May be a bad re-build or the lash was not properly adjusted. Or as @It_s_Me say, may not have been the problem at all.

How to diagnose from the steering box up to the steering wheel?

The proper way is the use a very light torque wrench to set the drag on the steering box while it is disconnected entirely.

Turn the steering shaft by hand, at the rag joint, back and forth a very small amount while you touch the pittman arm. If it feel notchy or sloppy, it is probably the steering box. It should be very direct with a small amount of drag on the shaft.

Thanks, got it!
