2005 VW Beetle

During a rainy commute my friends beetle died. The dealership hit her with a 800+ repair bill for ignition coil relacement, mechanic said, it got wet, it fried, you need a new one. She got a second call, oh yeah by the way, air pump is full of water, gotta replace it too…

Has her dealership taken her for a big ride? How plausible is this, if the damn things are made to drive in all weather??

Any suggestions?? Comments???

an aftermarket coil is 280 dollars. remove and replace is less than 1 hour. take the car to the dealer for warranty work only. find a good independant shop for all other maintenance and repair.

No deep puddles. You can’t always avoid them. Drive slowly through them and just hope the water stays away.
