When filling the gas tank, the gas does not go constantly. Sometime the gas would “spew” back out of the nozzle. I took the car to AutoZone and the code came up 1440…auxiliary emission control??? The car is out of warrantly. Can anyone provide any feedback. The car is running fine.

The code is telling you the charcoal canister is saturated and won’t accept any more fuel vapor.
FYI, saturated canisters are caused by constant fuel tank ‘topping off’.
I made a mistake. The code is 1446. Is this the same thing? And what does “topping off” mean?
In the past, when filling the tank, did you normally add more gas after the pump shut off?
