My mechanic replaced the cylinder head gasket on my car and installed the exhaust rocker arm shaft notch down with new rocker arms. I’m reassembling the rocker arm shaft ass’y but can’t get the valve lash adjusters to manually pump up per the Haynes manual. Are they toast?
To fill the lash adjusters you must submerge them in motor oil and actuate the check valve in the center with a thin rod, you will see bubbles rise from the lash adjuster. Most techs just install them and let the oil pressure fill the lash adjusters.
You were right. Today I assembled the engine in the Neon and fired it up. It took somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes but the lifters gradually quieted down. Thanks for your input.
