2004 b2300 with oil burning up to nothing, turning black after fresh oil and maybe 20 miles. Replaced head. No smoking, burning smells. Oil now visibly leaking, spraaying out from under the hood. Otherwise running the same as before head work. Bad truck, need new engine, or mechanic at fault?
timeline please. how long have you owned it? ran ok. for a long time? got steadily worse? mechanic said the reason was?
Check your valve cover gasket.
Agree! That’s the first place to look when that much oil is leaking.
And keep in mind the torque spec for those bolts is often expressed in inch-pounds, not foot-pounds. You don’t want to over torque. If they were over torqued in the past, the cover’s mating surface may be distorted and the cause of the leak.
He said there was a bolt that didn’t get replaced or installed, thanks! Running great now, check engine light is off and actually have a little more “oomph” and no oil leaking, finally!
