So Car Talk family, I need your expertise.
Looking to purchase a 04 Town & Country with all the bells and whistles except the rear entertainment package.
Mileage is just under 115,000.
Dealer is asking $4700. Bank says it’s worth twice that much.
Is there anything I should be checking that might lend to the low cost?
According to Auto Check it didn’t travel across state lines and it wasn’t involved in a wretch.
Thank you.
Best to take it to your local mechanic and for $100 or $150 have them look it over. They will know what to look for and can give you a good idea of what the van may need. I have a 2005, it needed a new power sttering pump and not much else. The auto check services only report what has been reported to them so take it with a grain of salt.
Actually the asking price is in line with the current market value for these, other than a full checkup from a mechanic you should have a decent van for the price.
I have a hard time believing it is worth more than $5000 , at least for the private sale price.
@SteveCBT has it spot on. Before getting out your checkbook, pay $100 or so to your local inde mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection.
I have a hard time believing the bank saying the vehicle is worth more than the dealer asking price.
I don’t believe the bank said that, I believe the dealer said the bank said that.
Another vote for @SteveCBT’s suggestion.
Spending $100-$150 for a local independent mechanic inspection (not the dealer’s) can be viewed as insurance to protect you against a later much larger repair expense.
Thank you all.
