The car had been running and driven several miles with no trouble. I turned into a parking spot and then attempted to back up to straighten out. I put it in reverse and when I applied the gas there was no revving of the engine and no movement. I put it in Drive and again, no movement and no revving of the engine when the gas pedal was pressed. At that time the brake pedal locked hard. I turned the car off, waited a few moments and restarted and everything worked fine. The mechanic says if he can’t recreate it he can’t fix it. Any ideas?
Based on the fact that your brake pedal " locked hard" I’d say you had no engine vacuum and the engine simply stalled
