The symptoms suggests that the camshaft position sensor is out of sync. The camshaft position sensor is mounted on the oil pump drive shaft, if the shaft seizes, the housing will rotate placing the CMP sensor out of time.

Inspect the oil pump drive shaft housing hold-down clamp for signs of movement.
