I was told by a reputable mechanic that my right rear wheel bearing was bad. He said it sounds like I’m driving on “bad road” all the time. I don’t hear that. Is there a way to check it out without spending $500!!! to get it fixed???
Raise the vehicle so that tire is off the ground. Grab the tire at 6:00 and 12:00 oclock positions. Now try wiggling the tire to see if there’s any play in the bearing. If this doesn’t reveal a worn bearing, place your hand on the strut spring and then slowly rotate the tire. A rough bearing can sometimes be felt in the strut spring when the tire is rotated.
