2001 Civic Timing Belt

Guys,

Hi! I have a 2001 Honda Civic that I bought last year with only 26K miles on it. It now has 38K miles. Should I be concerned about the timimg belt? Thanks Mike.

If you plan on keeping the car more than 1 year I would have it changed soon.

Also if spending $1500-$3000(major repair if it snaps) is a concerning to you I would definitely do it.

Yes. The timing belt is now eight years old. Consult the maintenance schedule that came with the owner’s manual. I’m sure it will advise replacement of the belt before it is eight years old.

If the belt breaks the engine will suffer internal damage. It’s much less expensive to replace the belt than to repair the damage if it breaks.
