Disconnecting the battery doesn’t work anymore, either. You need a scan tool to clear the trouble codes. Some codes may clear themselves after a bit, but a scan tool is the quickest way.
Have you fixed the problem the check engine light indicates? Auto Zone, and other auto parts stores, will read the code, AND turn it off. The light is turned off; but, the problem is still there. You might want to listen to what it’s trying to tell you.
