2000 Nissan Maxima, What's up with the tranny?

I bought this car in 2002. I’ve had the same problem, I guess, all the time, but didn’t notice it until couple of weeks ago. The car is now driven by my mother and my daughter… If car is in 3rd or 4th gear and you stomp on the gas, when it was mine, it would take 2 or 3 seconds for the car to figure out what to do, meaning drop back a gear or two. Now it just gets stuck between gears, the RPM’S go up but it won’t downshift. Other than this problem the transmission is perfectly smooth, quiet, and reliable.

Anybody guess if it’s electrical, vacuum, or mechanical? Driving normally, or floor it from a dead stop…no problem.

PS. Transmission fluid is fairly new, and full.

Whar is the HISTORY of transmission fluid changes, and what is the present mileage. Do you have the maintenance records?

You’re saying you didn’t notice this “problem” for nine years, is that correct?

How is it that you notice it now, especially since other people are driving the car?
