1998 Taurus engine miss feel when stopped or low speeds

I own a 1998 Ford Taurus with about 141,000 miles. For a little while now the engine seems to miss (or so it feels) when I am stopped at a stop light or at low speeds. There is no hesitation when accelerating or at higher speeds. I have recently changed the spark plugs and fuel filter with no change to the problem.

Just wondering if anybody had a suggestion as to what could be causing this problem.

Thanks

Remove and clean the EGR valve and bench-test it for proper operation. If they stick open a little, they will destroy your idle…So will a vacuum leak. Temporarily plug the main vacuum supply port and the brake booster vacuum line and see if that cures it. If it does, isolate the vacuum leak…
