abs light comes on and dont go away
Well it is recommended to find out why and make the necessary repairs, maybe try pulling the codes with a scanner that can read ABS system would be a good place to start…
I am guessing you meant that as a question and not a statement…
That’s often caused by a problem with the wheel speed sensor system. The ABS needs to know how fast all of the wheels are rotating to work correctly. If one of wheels doesn’t appear to be rotating, while hte othe 3 are, a computer will usually turn the ABS warning ight on, and disable the ABS system until the problem is resolved. The post above recommending to ask a shop to determine the ABS diagnostic codes is the best approach imo. You might be able to retrieve those codes using your own scan tool, but many of the inexpensive aftermarket scan tools are not able to read ABS codes. A good shop will have the appropriate scan tool.
Another idea: Are all of the tires the correct tire pressure? If not, correct that problem, you might get lucky.
A 1997 may still use flash codes for ABS. The Advance Auto scanner can read ABS codes on Fords if it does use the OBD II interface.
It’s a '97. It has OBD II.
You could have a bad Anti-Lock Brake Control Module. the solder around circuit pins tend to crack, especially on higher mileage ford vehicles.
Those Kelsey-Hayes ABS modules were used on several different brands, and they often threw bogus codes which were only solved by installing a new or rebuilt module
