1996 Ford E250 - Tranny Problem

my replacement e4od transmission in my van has suddenly had an erratic shift pattern someone told me the sensor in the rear end needs to be changed otherwise the van drives perfect and has full power it’s a Ford 5.8 l engine

I suggest you take it back to the place thst replaced the transmission and have them take a look.

I put it in myself from a junkyard…had 90K on it and worked perfectly for a year about 11K miles…then started an erratic first and second gear shift pattern…revs high in first the hard into second , otherwise it is working fine…

OK, I don’t think the speed sensor in the axle for the ABS matters at all to the transmission. They only cost $15 so I’t wouldn’t break the bank to try and replace it.

This trans is fully analog - non-electronic controls. First check the fluid color, smell and level. Does it look dark or smell burnt? I’d drop the pan and take a look inside for trash from failing parts. A filter change and fresh fluid may un-stick what might be sticking.

That guy from fordmakeuloco said itight be the sensor…I have the E4OD trans which is electronic and I don’t have rear antilock , only front…he said it sends a signal for speed range relative to shift pattern… your right it is under $20 and an easy change out… thanks
