when truck runs and is shut off. when I try to restart, it just clicks as if battery is dead. I let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes, and it starts. I suspect a heat related electrical issue.
1992 chev 3500 turbo diesel
Good suspicion! Turbo-diesel. On an old truck. Makes heat for a living and it is causing a high resistance connection when hot. Make sure ALL the battery cables are in good condition, all the connections clean and corrosion free and all the grounds are in place and in good shape. Especially the woven strap to the engine block itself. Once all that is good, if that solves it, great!
Next place to look is the starter solenoid and maybe the starter itself.
