I’ve been through the ringer on this one.
The starter just jams against the flywheel and will not start the truck. I’ve changed the starter, battery and alternator (battery and alternator were bad). My mechanic says the flywheel is in excellent shape no burrs or broken teeth. When I start the truck about 1 out of 3 starts it will just go “chunk” and not start.
I can move the key back just a little and at times it will turn over and start but not every time.
Any ideas?
Is this one that needs to have shims under the starter bolts to space the starter correctly from the flywheel?
Yes the shim is installed.
I just talked with my mechanic and he said that he is going to add another shim (or shims) to see if this will fix the problem.
Someone told me that there were two metal strips connecting from the ignition that if they fail to make adequate contact could cause this problem. Is there any truth to this?
