'87 Volvo 740 GLE has intermittent starting problem. It always cranks, but doesn’t always start. It’s been towed to my mechanic twice, but always starts when there. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
It sounds like given x amount of time it will restart. Get with the dealer and stop there every time you pass by so they can diagnose the car in failure mode. Meanwhile if it fails go out to dinner and come back in an hour to see if it starts.
The ignition module comes to mind. These pesky modules begin to fail intermittently until the fail completely. Next time it doesn’t start, check it for spark at the coil. If there is no spark, the ignition module is suspect. They are easy to change, but pricey at about $150.
