i was wondering because i lost my manual what kind of transmission fluid a 1987, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, standard transmission takes.i’ve asked around but it seems there are a lot of different types of fluids.
It should be imprinted on the transmission dipstick, but I believe it is Mercon/Dextron III equivalent.
It takes 75w90 gear oil. Synthetic is the best in this application. I found that Mobil one works good in Nissan manual transmissions.
My bad, you did say 5-speed manual. I missed that.
I certainly recommend Synthetic for manual transmissions where it is allowed. It makes for much easier shifting in the winter and the slight additional cost is made up with less wear.
