1970 Chevrolet Malibu - Real SS?

need a build sheet to see if this a real SS

I don’t have one. Kinda like you. Do you own the car? Looking to buy it?

If it’s not with the car, you’re not going to get it.

Even if it’s with the car it could be as counterfeit as the car.

These are often placed by the factory builders on the underside of one of the seats. Take a look there. I only recently found the build sheet for my similar-era Ford truck on the underside of the seat.

“Perhaps one of the best ways to authenticate an SS is with the build sheet, protect-o-plate, original window sticker, etc. Even with those, however, you have to be on the lookout for fakes. I’ve even heard of VIN numbers on build sheets being changed. There are also companies that can supply you with reproduction protect-o-plates, window stickers, and even cowl tags.”

What is a protect-o-plate?
