I have a pristine 63 v-8 convert with the two speed automatic. Had it for many years and I’m certain the little old lady who owned before never serviced the trans. I had heard that if you change the trans fluid on an old trans you might kill it.
Anyone know? Thanks
Nah, it’ll be fine-- old automatics, especially 2-speeds, are suprisingly robust. Don’t get it “flushed”, but do go ahead and drop the pan and change the filter and, if equiped with a drain, drain the torque convertor. Then fill it back up-- I believe you need “Type-F” transmission fluid, but I’m not really a Ford guy and don’t know for sure.
Thanks!
Yup, it’s type F fluid. GM had Dextron and Ford had type F.
