The advice to never idle a car inside a garage, even if the garage door is wide open and the exhaust pipe is toward the open garage door is spot on. I learned that the hard way many years ago. In my case the wind was directed toward the garage, which allowed exhaust fumes to accumulate at the back wall, where I was tuning up my VW Rabbit. Definitely got a little dizzy before I realized what was happening. I also discovered even when you realize what’s going on and you immediately leave & move into fresh air, it still takes 30 minutes or more to recover.

I just had a conversation with my SIL, convinced her not to warm up her car for 5-10 minutes in the garage with the door open, just for that reason.
