Screw what???
You need somebody to hook a diagnostic device to your battery and tell you if the battery and your alternator are good or bad. Until load tested, you may just have a bad battery and/or alternator. You shouldnt need to charge your battery.
So I charged the battery yesterday and it started up fine and it ran until about 5 minutes down the road when the lights shut off inside and it stopped running. As I was trying to drive it to the mechanic but since it stopped running had to have it towed
You are well on the way to getting this solved. Have him put a new battery in and check the charging system.
Wrong , you don’t tell the mechanic what to do. You describe the problem as best you can and then get out of the way so the mechanic can do their job.
I agree with you, but this is a bit of a unique situation. Did you read the above?
Well I assume since it started up fine and was driving it fine until I got down the road that it really isnt those two things
Let us know what he says, you might be right. But make sure he checks battery and charge system with a load tester.
I am not there right now and explained to the mechanic what happened when I was trying to get it started thats why they first said the battery probably just needs to charge. Then also told them I couldn’t get it to work and also explained what happened yesterday so they are looking at it and hopefully be able to fix it
Yes indeed! Let us know what it was.
If your alt. is not charging the battery the car will run until it uses all the juice from the battery and then it will all stop, the battery and the alt need to be checked and checked under load too,(stress test)…
Alternator needed replacing
Excellent! Got to feel good to get it fixed!
Yeah it did feel good.
As long as its running and there are no major electrical problems. That is probably an aftermarket anti-theft. If it starts acting squirrelly get rid if it, they have been known to cause all sorts of electrical problems.
