02 caviler coolent problems

to start off the car is not blowing any hot air and is running extermley hot. my first thought was that it was the thermostat. i changed it but, it did not fix the issue. i tested the old one that i had took out and it was opening fine. now the funny thing is if i push on the gas it blows out heat, at idle nothing but cold. not to mention it’s still almost in the red… the fan is kicking on around 195 degrees but it’s not cooing down the motor. my buddy told me to replace the radiator cap, then might have to flush it out? could someone please give me any advice that you might have on this issue. thank you in advance…

The problem might be caused by entrained air in the cooling system.

Get the vehicle up to operating temperature. With the engine idling, slightly loosen the upper radiator hose clamp and slip a flat bladed screwdriver between the the hose and the radiator neck. Allow the engine to idle until all the air is purged out of the cooling system. Retighten the clamp.
