You cannot go over the speed limit to pass another vehicle

You judge by today’s standards not that at the time. Woe to us 200 years from now. But the founders tried to leave slavery out but South Carolina said no way. For the sake of keeping the 13 states together they left it in.

They are part of my family, I think they have the right to be called what they want to be called, NOT what some crazy activist thinks they should be called, and defiantly NOT by you…

Respectfully I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this subject… You are not going to change my thinking and I am not yours…

Calling someone whose ancestry remains on the North American continent “Indian” is like referring to a hammer as a saw, the way I see it.

The stubbornness you, and not only you by the way, demonstrate, is a large factor in the colonization of this part of the continent, and of the founding of the United States itself.

I agree with your sentiment. But the way I see it, what the Indians, Native Americans, Indigenous Peoples, etc. should be called belongs with those people. So unless you are of Native ancestry it’s none of your business.

BTW, a couple of generations back my ancestors hail from a chain of islands that was then called the Dutch East Indies. What should we be called?

And to keep things automotive, back in the 1930’s in that country grandma drove a Ford but grandpa was relegated to a bicycle. Seems he kept running into things.

It is - kind of - my business, because someone from the same region as my ancestors(Europe) made the mistake of calling the people on this land Indians, thinking he had landed in INDIA.

So yes, I apologize for one of my European forebears misidentifying indigenous occupants of the continent known as North America based on where he thought he had landed!

Before the whole thing was named, in 1500, after one arrogant European, North ‘America’ had no name. It was simply occupied by hundreds of autonomous tribes.

You are from Italy?

:man_facepalming: :man_facepalming:

I have ancestors from Italy, yes. Which is part of Europe. Not all of Europe were conquerers or mercenaries or arrogant peoples, just the ones that went aroud the world claiming other lands in the name of ther god or whatever.

A lot of cars and sports teams named after indians (Native americans) but one should note it is believed the native americans were immigrants. also as history says they crossed the bering straight to get to this continent

  • Chevrolet Cheyenne.
  • Dodge Dakota.
  • Ford Thunderbird.
  • Jeep Cherokee.
  • Jeep Comanche.
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee.
  • Mazda Navajo.

Still, DNA and bone evidence indicates they arrived here before the Europeans, perhaps thousands of years prior.

Don’t forget the entire brand of Pontiac and the motorcycles named Indian.

Do we think the bikes were named for the Asian subcontinent or the early Americans?

I’ve got a tecumseh engine. Named after a chief.

Take a drive to the ‘Glades, tell them their sign is wrong.

If you’re referring to horses, please provide a source. I’ve read a bit about them, and that’s not correct.

Tell that to the people who lived in the following countries/regions, which were occupied by Italy during the bracketed years:

  • “Italian” Eritrea (1882–1947)
  • “Italian” Somalia (1889–1947)
  • Libya (1911–1947)
  • “Italian” East Africa (1936–1941)
  • “Italian Ethiopia” (1936–1941)
  • Tientsin, China (1901-1943)
  • “Italian” Albania (1917–1920, 1939–1943)
  • “Italian” Islands of the Aegean (1912–1947)
  • Montenegro (1941–1943)
  • Tunisia (1942–1943)

texases:

So you, and perhaps others in this line of conversation, sincerely believe that Columbus, Vespucci, and Erikson were the first human beings to set foot on this continent, and neighboring islands.

I believed that, until my thirties, but learned to dig deeper, seek other sources of information.

I’m talking about horses. Are you?

No.

HUMANS!

Are you ok??

There was previous discussion about horses. Nobody has claimed Europeans were here first. Why even bring that up?

And how is the end result different? I can’t buy eggs that aren’t cage-free. I can’t build a new house with a gas stove. I can’t buy a car without these things, whether I want them or not. It’s just different wrapping around the same idea…“We’re the government, and we’re doing this for your own good.”

As have I. If I ride a motorcycle without a helmet, crash and bust my head open, the situation will quickly resolve itself.

That was me lol, it was more of a joke, but I never said there were horses here, just it may be debatable and I posted a source… Again, I have NO dog in that fight… I wasn’t there…
BTW, it was post 168…
