Ethanol, 85%, was accidentally dispensed into my '05 Ford 500. The mechanics said to run it out, however the poor car jerks when going above 58mph. We had the bad fuel pumped out which removed about 50% of tank’s capacity, refueled w/ right fuel. On board diagnostic system says “service transmission”. How much damage has been done?
E-85 can hurt the engine, but not the transmission. Take the car to a mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
E-10 (90% gasoline and 10% ethanol) is common. E-85 just has more ethanol. If you refilled the tank when it was half full of straight gasoline, the resulting mixture was E-42.5. Topping off with straight gasoline would reduce the ethanol fraction even more.
