No personal failing; we all do it. The problem is that anecdotal evidence is very selective and may or may not be representative. For at least a start in terms of larger patterns, you could look at the annual April issue of Consumer Reports to see how the various makes and models stack up in terms of repair records. Brains are handy but they sometimes take incorrect shortcuts.
