Why the decline is automotive technicians

Attention AND motivation? Hahaha
Ironic. More kids and they are dumber.

Does that include yours ?

The 2,500-Year-Old History of Adults Blaming the Younger Generation

Son has phd and daughter has masters. My dad is a retired doctor. I’m quite talented in auto repair. And almost always right.

That’s a huge problem in tech field. I however embraced the change. I liked learning new things. But a lot of people I worked with early in my career left after 20 years because everything was changing too often and too fast. A lot of people go work for a company and stay there for YEARS and years working on the same product using the same software tools and language. Then when that product they were working on became so obsolete the company decides to upgrade and bring in qualified people to help them. Many times I’ve seen the engineers who’ve been there for DECADES decide they didn’t want to spend the time learning the new technology and leave (many into completely different fields).

What’s ironic about that? It takes a properly motivated adult to spend the time necessary to foster the curiosity that all kids have and provide the necessary educational opportunities to grow that interest. It’s not the kids- it’s the adults that are failing the kids.

Red flag.

So what makes you think your children are so unique among the population of of their age or those coming up behind them?

You have to show why the new is better than the old and not just for the sake of change. When they first came out I bought about 20 of the electronic typewriters. They just had memory. One older lady I gave one to just did not want it. Was perfectly satisfied with he plain typewriter. She reluctantly tried it and I spent quite a little time showing her how she could throw away the multi colored correction fluid, save paragraphs for letters etc. it took a month but after that she would have killed anyone trying to take her machine away. Of course then it was word processors, email, and computer networks, etc. I understand it’s hard to keep up but the emphasis has to be on what business problem is being addressed.

While we are getting away from cars, I have to comment. Had a typewriter with some memory. Hated it, the memory delayed the familiar click, no longer synchronized with key strokes. Back then, pre-word processors, loved my IBM Selectric .

Yeah like pulling teeth sometimes but if you were doing boiler plate letters, or carbon copies and made a mistake, a selectric was not your friend.

I still have the rivet setting tool for loan if you want to take a crack at it.

The tech schools tend to steer students towards higher paying professions. Try to find a tech school that still has courses on TV repair.

We had a great vo tec with all the hard vocations. It has gradually shifted into accounting, nursing, medical records, and other soft vocations. They still have carpentry, machining and so on but I’ve noticed the shift. Not really familiar enough to know more. A classmate has a very high level fabrication business and was an advisor for a long time but I think his influence has been reduced some. It may not matter but the superintendents have all been female for the past ten years.

Not a clue but I could have used it the other day. Took a load to the=compost site and got a big branch wedged underneath the car. Took some effort with a broom to knock it loose.

I believe it is a body rescue hook. for working on high voltage. so, someone can rescue you if you’re getting electrocuted.

You’re correct!

Yes, but if you are hit by the HV of a hybrid, you will never know it, so as I stated, it is to keep the smell down because you are being cooked, similar to that of an electric chair that doesn’t turn off…

Hybrids have come a long way since I got hybrid certified, but back then, the voltages range was like in the 300-600 volt range and it was instant death if hit by the high voltage system, we had 1000 volt gloves that you had to wear if working were it could hit you… I think the range is much lower now and in the 144 volt and up range…

Yeah never thought of that or use at the pool to pull someone out.

There are several different types of hybrids

Some have voltage much higher than 144v, afaik

TVs are now disposable. It is very likely that its cheaper to buy a new one than to repair an existing one. I wouldn’t even know where to find a tv repair person.
