Why is AAMCO consider such a terrible place?

Do you mean the clutch master cylinder?

Back around 1995 we had the transmission in our 1988 Plymouth Grand Voyager decide that going forwards was over-rated. Reverse still worked so it was backed into the parking lot of the AAMCO that happened to be right by where it lost forward drive. Couldnā€™t work on it until after the long 4th of July holiday but they rebuilt the transmission and gave us the part that caused the failure, Dad may still have it in the garage. Never had to use the warranty, van was on the road until 2011.

A 12 year old original thread; true enough. But another poster tagged on 19 hours ago ranting about AAMCO and up to this point has not returned with some direly needed followup info.
My gut feeling is that this person may be a bit mechanically confused with a few issues.

A manual transmission that has a ā€œton of metal shavings in the fluidā€ also has a big problem. It comes across as leaking oil from a loose drain plug after arriving home following picking the car (unknown vehicle to this point) and stating metal was in the fluid. They continued driving it for a few months untilā€¦
One big lingering question for me is whether or not that replacement manual transmission was a used unit. As with many complaints there is a disturbing lack of clarity; ergo, we have to guess a bit.
