If it’s not Bachman-Turner, it’s not Overdrive
I don’t care if it is left side only drive tires, a fixed gear is a fixed gear, the ratios of a gear are one of 3 things, A) underdriven, B) overdriven C) 1:1 ratio… One wheel drive, 2 wheel drive, whatever wheel drive DOES NOT CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION GEAR RATIOS !!!.!!!.!!!
The rest of your post as most are is just word salad…
Thanks @Purebred for Takin’ Care of Business.
There are a few others that should also be FORCED to take time outs
Thr loudest album I ever bought!
Sad auto-related rock news: REO Speedwagon has broken up.
The 1936 Cord, 4th gear was overdrive. Overdrive has been around for a long time.
Now back to your truck with the 300 cubic inch in-line six, what is your current 0-60 time?
Drop in a 428 FE with an AOD, get a limited slip differential. Stop loosing sleep about which manual transmission to hook up to your 6 cylinder to improve acceleration.
Interesting… The 4th and 5th gears are 1:1 on each transmission but the 5th gear is actually slightly taller on the 5 speed than the 6th on the 6 speed.
Are you saying that you could reach top speed in second gear? You would have to investigate inside the transmission to actually determine which gear was 1:1.
Volvo 850 2.3L Turbo could reach top speed in 4th (with the automatic), so it didn’t really have an overdrive.
The only advantage to the 1:1 gear being DRIVE, is that there is slightly less friction loss in the transmission, so your top speed is slightly higher than if you had the overdrive as 1:1 and something like 1.3:1 as you DRIVE or top speed gear.
Slow like 15 seconds. 3rd gear tops out at about 60 MPH. Right now it’s more me being curious if doing something like putting in a really high ratio rear end and having 4th gear top out at like 70 MPH would make it faster, or would there the shifting delays may it worse. Since 15 seconds is so long anyway, it would probably help. Now if it was boosted to 230HP from 155, then things might be different. Really the best thing would be to make 5th gear taller, to have more economy, but keep the others the same so that the already slow 0 to 60 times and towing performance aren’t made worse. The Corvettes with 7th gear triple overdrive are very over geared get 30 MPG highway.
Look at this other discussion. They’re saying that a Chevy Cruise takes 1.097 times more engine power to go 50 MPH in the automatic transmission version compared to the manual! I wonder if 6th gear on the manual transmission 1:1 on that car. How much HP needed for ECO at 55, 65 and 75 mph? | Chevrolet Cruze Forums
The Cruze’s 6 speed manual has no 1:1 ratio. 4th, 5th and 6th are less than 1:1.
The 6 speed auto has 5th as 1:1 and 6th less than 1:1
The 9 speed auto has 7th gear as 1:1 and 8th and 9th are less than 1
No I was saying the piece of crap had NO power and would at best go 85 mph going down a step hill, and had a hard time doing 60 MPH up a hill…
And 4th gear was 1:1 ratio, it was not an OD…
Really don’t know how much more wrong you can get. Please do some research before you start spouting BS.
How about this:
I can recall several people–back in the '60s & '70s–who said that their automatic trans had gone into “overdrive” when it kicked down to the next lowest gear for passing.
When they would say this, I would try to explain the difference between going into overdrive and their transmission kicking down to the next lowest gear, but I just got blank expressions in return.
It’s a shame the motoring public has gotten so dumb. But maybe it is to be expected, since the cars now brake, turn on headlights, wipers, maintain following distance for you.
But, it’s not a recent occurrence. What I observed/heard dates back as long as 6 decades ago. Some people might have been that automotively-dumb even further back, but I can only recall hearing such stuff as far back as the '60s.
Well, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it eat frog legs…
and yes that makes as much since as TW90’s does…
