So you are still driving this car around and still do now know if it will start or not?
Yep. Still a mystery. No solution. And a gulp in my throat every time I turn the key.
I know this is best classified as “Cob-job” not even rising to the definition of a “Shade Tree Mechanical fix…” but I would wire in a jumper to the starter solenoid to use in the event of a non-start, assuming that your starter will crank by doing this when the key does not work.
When I was 15 I, along with my dad who would step in when I got stuck on something (which happened more than once) swapped out the tired 302 (2 bbl) from a 1974 F-100 with a mildly warmed over and rebuilt 390 (4bbl). It took me quite some time, and it was the first “big” job I had ever attempted up to that point. I/we pulled it off though, and the improvement in performance was noticeable.
Now in the grand scheme of things, that was one of the easier engine swaps a person can do. And after doing it once, subsequent swaps were easier. Back in 2006 or there abouts, I helped a buddy LS swap his 240SX. He was smart enough to have bought a kit with necessary adapters/mounts/etc. and we had the benefit of having a 3rd pair of hands who had done a similar swap before. Even though this was a much more involved swap, having the prior experience, and having two other people helping, and having everything you need to do the job on hand made it a relative breeze. We were able to complete the swap over the course of two Saturdays The car was a hoot to drive. My buddy who owned the car ,grenaded the diff within a month of the swap.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I think someone would LS swap a coffee maker if possible…
But I would loved to of been on that 1st test drive, I bet it was a blast… reminds me of the 280ZX 350(383)/350 swaps back in the day…
Your mystery presents a great opportunity for a car-repair forum like this b/c a seemingly impossible to solve problem makes for a very interesting topic. We know for a fact it is possible to solve, b/c your car didn’t have this problem when it came off the assembly line (presumably) . Would make for a great magazine article too.
Yep, I think so too! I actually contacted one of those TV car repair shows some time back about it. So far, no response. Thanks for your reply.
Hopefully you’ll eventually eventually get some interest. Those tv shows have to worry about their budget, so for certain problems might be concerned they are getting in over their heads. As a viewer however I’d be more inclined to watch a difficult-to-solve episode.
Do you really think anyone would use program time about a 2007 Pacifica?
Yes, I do.
