With the Vega…yes…
Ooh, ooh! OK, I’ll bet you’ve got one Snap-On wrench I’ve got.
We both were wrenching on VW Type 1s. What did you use for the rear carburetor nut (the one toward the front of the car) of the 2 nuts that held the carb to the single port manifolds?
I still have my gracefully curved 13mm/15mm Snap-On box-end wrench in my tool box up north. That tool was a life saver.
Got yours?

If I worked as a mechanic for a living then I’d buy a lot of Snap-On.
Kid I went to high-school with sold his Snap-On franchise (including inventory) for close to $1,000,000.
I think many pro mechanics shared that regret on pay day. The pay went through the mechanic on its way out to the truck where the driver received a payday.

Yes I still have the SO S-wrench for VW Beetle rear carb nuts. Also have a Craftsman crescent shaped (not crescent wrench) wrench which is 9/16 X 5/8 for various Harley Davidson cylinder base nuts.
As much as it pained me I had to spend 75 bucks with the SO guy to buy a 10 MM thin handled and very thin walled box end wrench on one end only just to walk off of the truck and take a torch to it and mold it into the shape I needed. No other tool man carried a wrench like that and the SO tool would not work for what I needed it for.
As I said. SO tools are great but not everything in the inventory performs as expected. I’ve had my Standard and Metric Cornwell sockets for 40 years now and they have taken a beating. Not one of them has ever cracked or let me down and they were a fraction of the price of their SO counterparts.
I’ve also got a few MAC tools that I should honestly just toss into the trash bin.
Both the SO and MAC guys here have been in business for 45 years so they must be doing something right.
Harbor Freight opened up a store near here 2 weeks ago. I dropped in to browse a bit and they have a new tool box on display. Seems to be very heavy and well built but it’s kind of Titanic in stature…
Are you serious? Where do you sit to drive it?
Does it have an ice maker?

I still have ( I think a few New Britton wrench’s ) that used to be sold at independent part’s house’s I wander if they still make them?
Does it require a CDL, or a back-up beeper?
I’ve seen a LOT of turnover, in regards to Snap On tool guys in the areas I’ve worked in
Some of the guys make a killing, and it’s because they’re always making deals, making sales, getting more tool trucks, etc.
And other guys are hesitant to make deals and seem to go buy the wayside eventually
While I don’t have any inside information, I have a feeling at the end of the day, if there’s going to be a loser, it’s going to be the individual snap on vendor, not snap on corporate
As for that life time warranty . . . the tool vendors have made plenty of money off me over the years. Those tools they’ve warranted for me were just a drop in the bucket, compared to what I’ve spent on the trucks
new young guys on the tool vendor’s route is just another opportunity to sell a tool box, tools, a scanner, and plenty of other things. Since there’s significant turnover in the automotive industry, there will always be plenty of new guys looking to buy tools. And some of those tools will be bought on the truck
Since the HF tool box has 110 power I would think one of those end cabinets would easily hold a dorm fridge for the beer or a wine chiller.
I can’t imagine having to move that thing if one changes jobs frequently although I did work very briefly with a guy who solved that problem. He was a salaried fleet mechanic who decided to give import car flat rate a try. Two weeks and he had had enough.
And yeah, that HF box looks even bigger in person while standing next to it. I suspect that guy in the pic is 6’7" or something. I’m near 6 foot and would need a step ladder to access the top section. The top of my head was about even with the top of the center opening.
The mechanical engineering group at work spends a ton on tool boxes. On my previous project, they bought two big tool boxes. They needed electric power so that the on board computer could automatically log out tools that were removed from their shadow box for FOD control. They are about 4’ tall and 7’ wide. Snap-On, of course. IIRC, they were about $15,000 each.
I looks like HF is taking direct aim at the upper echelon of the tool market… Yeah its worth a snicker or two…for now…but methinks this wont be too funny after a while. Watch that space I say…you may be surprised not only at the sturdiness of what they are selling now…but what is to come…as clearly their sights have been directed higher. I’m sure the prices will go the same way, but to what extent remains to be seen and may be a win for them…at some point.
My favorite tool is duct tape. At present,I have 3 rolls.
Do you also have the WD40 to go with it?
One tool I bought over 36 years ago was a 1/2" Black and Decker hammer drill. It was expensive for me at the time, but I was installing a drain system called Channel Drain ® around the exterior walls of the basement if the house we owned at the time. I had to sink concrete anchors into the floor and walls to hold this channel. A cement adhesive was applied to seal the channel to the floor and walls. The water that seeped in between the walls and the floor went into the channel and then ran into a sump pump which I also installed. I have used the drill quite a few times since then. Last fall, I bored a 1/2" hole through an 8" cement wall for a conduit where we fed power to a picnic shelter that a scout built for our church as his Eagle Scout project.
Wd 40 to go with my duct tape?
Isnt that a pistol?
U r saying instead of fixing something, I should just shoot it?
You might be right
You need both duct tape for when it move’s and it is not suposed to move WD 40 for when it don’t move and it should move. If neather one work’s then you shoot it.
Thank u …at least i.have a choice now I sure needed one.does it have to be a wd 40 or will a plain old 32 work?
Do you not know what WD40 is or are you trying to make a joke ? Printed humor on a forum can be misunderstood .
