Waterless coolant

You won’t be buying a Toyota then, you can’t change the ATF, at least not yourself.

I just might, but I would get one with a manual transmission.

Yes you can…There’s no drain plug…so you have to drop the pan (which you should anyways) to drain the fluid and the filter. Make sure you have a new gasket…Then reinstall the pan (with new gasket) and refill.

That reminds me of oil extraction systems. Perhaps one could be used to change ATF without dropping the pan.

Still should drop the pan so you can replace the filter.

Let me clarify a little, the fluid can be changed, you just can’t do it yourself. It has to be hooked up to a special machine. Also, there is no dipstick, no way to check the fluid level. It has to be hooked up to this machine to even check it. But according to Toyota, it never needs to be checked or changed. The problem is that if you get the fluid out, you can’t put it back in without the machine, no fill port.

Does the machine teleport the fluid in? Please don’t tell me you worked on Toyotas in the Navy.

Maybe on some Toyota’s…but NOT on my 4runner. There’s a fill plug on the side of the transmission.

And YES according to Toyota it NEVER needs to be checked or changed UNLESS…the transmission temp light comes on. I do NOT like this…never have…it’s like the monitors that tell people the oil is fine after 10,000 miles.

Almost forgot…there’s a fill plug on the side of my wifes Lexus ES-350 too.

piter, none of your links apply. For those with this type of transmission, don’t remove that plug unless you have the special procedures for replacing the fluid. My understanding is that the special procedures require a special machine or you won’t get the level right.

Also, this type transmission does not use the Toyota ATF, it uses something called WS fluid.
